TIAA’s 2021 Summer Internship Program is an enriching opportunity for college students who want to supplement their academic preparation with a challenging work experience as they launch their professional careers. Successful completion of the internship can lead to a full time career opportunity at TIAA, upon graduation.

The Client Services department is a diverse area within TIAA. Interns will have an opportunity to join teams that provide the following support to our external individual and institutional clients:

  • Business Management
    – provide strategic planning, capacity modeling, business analytics, business enablement and project leadership

  • Continuous Improvement
    – provide six sigma waste reduction strategies, and technology enablement (robotics/technology improvements)

  • Institutional Plan Support
    – provide non-registered support to institutional plans to expedite onboarding of new clients


Summer Interns will work on an exciting mix of strategically-aligned challenging assignments and projects that help drive the achievement of the organization’s strategy and mission. Managers and colleagues will work side by side with summer interns to ensure development and learning. Candidates can expect to gain an understanding of TIAA and the Financial Services industry and will be involved in creating resolutions for complex problems and/or transactions where business expertise is required to interpret against policies, guidelines or processes.

Required Skills:
  • Currently in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree
  • Graduating between December 2021 and August 2023

Preferred Skills:
  • Previous internship experience
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Preferred majors include: Finance, Business Management, Accounting, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Communications
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to manage data and analyze trends
  • Skills in crafting concise, consistent and quality business communications
  • Ability to plan and execute on internal projects
  • Proficient in process mapping, excel spreadsheet, VISIO and PowerPoint creation & presentations

Job Description

Position Summary:
Performs assigned duties under the direction of experienced personnel to gain knowledge and experience in preparation for full time professional opportunities


Provides assistance and works on specific projects within the assigned business unit; may assist with ad hoc projects related to the industry, and/or business unit processes

Collects, organizes, analyzes, and prepares reports for management; assists team in identifying process improvements
Continuously develops analytical, project management, leadership, presentation, and other business skills by involvement in strategic projects and work assignments

Receives training and performs duties in assigned business unit to become familiar with division functions, operations, management skills or style, and company policies and practices affecting each phase of business

Participates in roundtable feedback discussions to interact with other participants and to offer program improvement ideas
Performs other duties as required


High School Diploma or equivalent, actively pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Basic administrative and organizational skills
Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrates acceptance of responsibility, flexibility in acceptance of assignments; exhibits dependability
Proficient in major PC applications, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Internet access
