Internship Overview:

Internships are professional experiences that students participate in to gain professional skills and experiences. Internships are structured as learning experiences that combine in-class theory with real–world applications. During the internship, you will work directly with the CFO/ VP of Accounting and other personnel as assigned to facilitate Accounting responsibilities. You will be involved in numerous aspects of the day to day activities for the ultimate accounting experience.


NOTE: There will be the opportunity for permanent placement.


Requirements:

  • Junior/Senior enrolled in college courses. Senior is preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a passion for Accounting.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated leadership experience; high initiative and drive.
  • Research and analytic skills; capacity to grasp technical details.
  • Strong organization, time management, and project management capabilities.
  • Problem resolution skills; able to think through problems resulting in proper course of action.


Hours
:

Hoping for a minimum of 30 hours/week. Average per week: 20 (+/-) hour per week. Flexible with school schedules. (Full-time possible.)


Specific Responsibilities may include:

  • Assist with gathering back-up support and preparing of Journal Entries.
  • Assist with month end close reports.
  • Perform various account reconciliations.
  • Perform miscellaneous administrative duties as assigned.
  • Filing & Scanning
  • Answer phone calls.

Accounting Internship

Function:
Finance / Accounting


What you will do:

  • As a member of the team, you will have the opportunity to develop knowledge of Crum & Forster’s Finance business model.
  • Provide support to our highly visible C&F initiatives, that are essential to our continued growth.
  • Assist with preparation of quarterly financial statements, footnote disclosure, exhibits and schedules for NAIC and state filing
  • Assist with preparation of deliverables for the statutory filings for multiple states including NAIC and US Treasury
  • Perform general ledger and subject premium/reinsurance reconciliations
  • Perform validation testing on various new system implementations
  • Assist in Ad Hoc Projects
  • Regularly communicate with supervisor and makes him/her aware of current work load, even in a remote environment

What YOU will bring to C&F:

  • Majoring in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field
  • A cumulative G.P.A of 3.5 or higher, preferred.
  • Possess basic knowledge of accounting and strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work and communicate well with other staff and other functional departments within the organization
  • Ability to accept, initiate, and implement changes in process in a fast paced work environment
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and follow up on issues
  • Ability to work with minimal upfront guidance and take ownership of work product
  • Intermediate experience with Excel (vlookups, pivot tables, macros), Word and Outlook
  • Possess knowledge of GAAP (basic understanding of Statutory Accounting Principles a plus)
  • Basic knowledge of major general ledger accounting software packages preferred (familiarity of Sungard EAS and Eagle Wings a plus)
  • Familiarity with report writers such as Business Objects and TM1 is also preferred

Overview:
Are you an Accounting, Finance or Business Administration major looking to gain professional experience? Are you interested in working for one of the largest musical instrument manufacturers in the world? Taylor Guitars is seeking a driven, passionate intern in our Accounting department. In this role, you will work closely with our team and learn how to update and review bank logs, navigate various systems (such as Syspro ERP), create RTS credit notes, log guitar information and much more. The ideal candidate would have basic knowledge of double entry accounting, experience using MS office products such as excel, knowledge of standard accounting procedures, ability to run various finance reports, familiarity with Syspro ERP navigation and strong presentation skills. Responsibilities:


*This internship will be 16 hours a week – two full days on either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.*


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Working with Accounting team on day to day tasks listed below and various projects as assigned.
  • Working closely with the Accounting staff to learn how to navigate the various systems. Written procedures also exist.
  • Working with Senior accountants to learn the process of updating and reviewing the daily bank log. Written procedures are available
  • Syspro navigation will be taught by walking through actual processes and then observing the intern until they are comfortable with each process.
  • Walking through the written procedures for creating RTS credit notes in Syspro and logging guitar information.
  • Journal entries will be explained and templates will be provided to create them. Basic knowledge of double entry accounting is preferred.

Weeks 1-3:

The intern will learn to navigate our ERP system, Syspro. The intern will help pull documentation requested by the auditors; review for specific information; and make notes on their findings. They will also review certain expenses and assign general ledger codes based on certain criteria.

Weeks 3-6:

He/she will learn to make entries into a spreadsheet and reconcile the daily bank activity log. This task requires a basic knowledge of excel. They will also learn to process RTS (Return to Stock) credits for customers returning guitars for various reasons.

Weeks 6-10:

The intern will be asked to work on various finance projects which will be taught on a case by case basis
He/she will be preparing and delivering a presentation to management summarizing the internship experience.
