Job Description

At Archives New Zealand Te Rua Mahara o te Kāwanatanga we work to ensure effective, trusted government record-keeping for the benefit of all New Zealanders. We preserve and protect more than seven million official records, from 19th century treaties to 21st century documents and data. Our goal is for all New Zealanders to easily access and use this taonga, connecting you to your rights and entitlements and stories – now and for the future.

We are seeking someone with professional archival and/or record keeping experience, with a working knowledge of relevant legislation including the Public Records Act 2005. This is a fixed term position until 30 June 2021.

This is an opportunity to be part of team that operates across many facets of Archives New Zealand’s work, ranging from dealing with transfers from local agencies, describing archives to facilitate access, responding to remote enquiries about the collection, and being part of the team that staff the enquiries desk.

There are also opportunities to contribute to national programmes, particularly around 2057 initiatives.

This is a fantastic opportunity to discover what it feels like to be part of a regional office of Archives New Zealand and gain experience across a wide range of work, particularly if you’re a new professional who is looking for variety, or someone who is looking for a change.

  • Iwi, hapū and communities across New Zealand are safe, resilient and thriving
  • People’s sense of belonging and collective memory builds an inclusive New Zealand
  • New Zealand is a well-functioning democracy across central and local government

Remote: Office Not Required

Remote: Office Not Required

For too long our lives have been dominated by the ‘under one roof’ Industrial Revolution model of work. That era is now over. There is no longer a reason for the daily roll call, of the need to be seen with your butt on your seat in the office. The technology to work remotely and to avoid the daily grind of commuting and meetings has finally come of age, and bestselling authors Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson are the masters of making it work at tech company 37signals. Remote working is the future – and it is rushing towards us.
