Job Description

Vertex is seeking a talented and motivated individual to join its Global Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) group in Boston, MA. The primary responsibility of the Associate Director / Director is to shape and execute on strategies that optimize the supporting evidence and value proposition of Vertex’s Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) pipeline assets through each stage of the development, launch and post-launch phases. This position reports to the Pipeline Assets Senior Director of HEOR.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic HEOR plan that supports the value proposition and commercial strategy of Vertex’s T1D pipeline assets
  • Execute on the HEOR plan by designing, developing, and completing HEOR-led studies that support T1D commercialization strategies and demonstrate value to key stakeholders
  • Actively participate in T1D cross-functional meetings and communicate HEOR strategies to the team
  • Collaborate with Clinical Development and Medical Affairs colleagues on the integration of economic, health-related quality of life/clinical outcome assessment, and health resource use parameters into Phase III protocol development, Real World Evidence prospective studies and post-launch development programs
  • Collaborate with market access colleagues to ensure payer considerations are incorporated into evidence generation plans, both clinical and non-interventional
  • Leads the economic modeling, comparative effectiveness, meta-analyses/systematic reviews, and value dossier development in preparation for launch readiness
  • Collaborate with Market Access and Regional HEOR colleagues to shape and execute on health technology assessment (HTA) early scientific advice engagement strategy
  • Follow best practices for HEOR data collection, analysis, modeling, dissemination and publication; ensure the high quality of data collection and analysis
  • Effectively communicate health economic and outcomes research findings internally and externally


  • An advanced degree (e.g., PhD, PharmD, MPH, MS) and an educational focus in the areas of health economics or outcomes research
  • 5 – 7 years of combined consulting and/or biopharmaceutical industry in health economics and outcomes research, with at least 2-3 years of experience working at a biopharmaceutical company
  • A strong track record of publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presenting at scientific meetings
  • A track record of success functioning in dynamic, matrix environments with the ability to multitask seamlessly
  • Strong attention to detail and quality focused
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to effectively present technical data and complex concepts to diverse audiences
  • Prior experience in cell and gene therapies and/or diabetes therapeutic area preferred
  • Prior experience organizing and participating in HTA early scientific advice meetings preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of epidemiology, clinical outcome assessment (COAs), reimbursement and pricing environment, economic modeling, clinical development and commercial activities desired
