Summary of Role
The Data Science Intern will be responsible for working with the Director of Data Science and Trade Systems and other team members to apply statistical knowledge and analytical skills to develop and refine R code related to price elasticity, trade promotions, and other trade events. Trade promotions are a vital profitability line item directly affecting profitability and this role will help optimize that spend. Evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of Trade Promotions through existing measures and enhancements or additions is a key part of the role, along with providing recommendations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
o Learn essential uses and application of internal software systems.
o Evaluate and refine existing R scripts.
o Evaluate promotions for effectiveness and efficiency systematically.
o Evaluate possible applications of event-based analytics using regression and other statistical techniques, and how to add this analysis to the existing process.
o Refine documentation of evaluation process from front to back.
o Develop and fine tune reports to summarize evaluation for other internal teams.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities
o Tune promotional history to drive better forecasting.
o Process improvement suggestions and ideas.
o Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designated team members.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
o Currently enrolled in post-secondary education with one year or less from graduation required.
o Currently working towards degree in Sales, Marketing, Business, Mathematics, or Data Science preferred.
o Experience coding in R & experience with regression and/or related skills required.
o Course work in Business Analysis required, reporting experience helpful.
o Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs required, especially Excel and Access.
o Strong communication skills; both verbal and written required.
o Ability to prioritize workload and responsibilities effectively.
o Ability to work individually and in a team environment.
o Strong organizational and time management skills.
o Interest in organic and working with farmers and cooperative business model preferred.
