Core Services Engineering (CSE) builds the critical products and services that Microsoft runs on. We are in the business of human capital management, sales team innovations and other important core services. We are shaping the way we think about and build these experiences for our users in the rapidly changing digital world. To move forward with this vision, we need to help transform our organization into one that is customer obsessed and teach them the tools to uncover rich insights. The User Research position will be critical to building customer empathy, and a user-centered approach for this organization. You will lead the formation of a training curriculum that will be used across our new organization to educate the org about customer empathy, user-centered design processes, and how to work with Design and Research to achieve this.

Responsibilities


Key responsibilities:
  • Design and execute research to drive product strategy and design direction on digital, physical, and environmental spaces to create the future of Smart Campus as a strategic function.
  • Engage in deep hands on analytical and synthesis (both qualitative and quantitative) to turn research findings into product decisions.
  • Bring creativity, and thought leadership to training content and how it is executed
  • Produce impactful artifacts which are visually rich and elevate storytelling
  • Partner with other Microsoft Teams who are doing similar work, learn from them, and build on the work they have been doing in this space to tailor the training program for CSEO
  • Conduct multiple research projects while looking horizontally across spaces and identify common threads in seemingly un-related spaces.


Qualifications


Knowledge, experience and skills:
  • Experience performing research in Design Sprints, Agile Development models and running large projects/programs which span multiple months
  • 5-7 years in user experience research, design research, product research or equivalent (i.e. hands on) so that you have successes and failures to draw upon
  • Well established portfolio of research techniques from ethnography, field studies, interviews, usability studies, concept validation, A/B testing, user journey mapping, surveys, scorecards and competitive analysis. You will use this vast experience to draw upon for the development of the curriculum
  • Ability to lead projects with little or no direction and identify priorities based on the product roadmap.
  • Strong product sense that can drive the team toward the same direction to connect the dots.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and strong attention to visual details
  • Strong aptitude for project management, schedules, and managing complexity
  • A passion for articulating how you understand customer needs, and ability to influence others

The Developer Tools UX Research Team brings a world-class UX to Visual Studio, .NET, and Azure. We are looking for an exceptional UX Researcher with the ability to conduct a range of formative and iterative research methods impacting both product direction and detailed experience design. You will be joining a team of 20 talented UX Researchers whose charter is to design end-to-end experiences for all developers that are useful, usable, and desirable. In this role, you will work in a highly collaborative environment with engineering, design, and business teams across the division to help make customer driven decisions. Your work will happen in the context of a lean or agile development environment supporting the release cadence of teams as well as helping define the strategic direction of products. Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct a range of formative and iterative research methods applicable to all product stages from conception to release.
  • Develop comprehensive research strategies to drive data into decisions across the product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with design, engineering, and business partners during all steps of research.
  • Translate research findings into actionable recommendations and deliver them in compelling ways.
  • Triangulate multiple data sources into integrated insights.
  • Communicate and evangelize research results to engineering and business teams.
  • Practice and help evolve the team’s research techniques and toolset to work effectively within a rapid product development cadence.
  • Align product experiences to the broader developer and Microsoft ecosystem.


Qualifications

  • An advanced degree in human-computer interaction, cognitive psychology, behavioral science, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of industry experience in user research.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of a range of UX research approaches and methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills with a proven ability to turn research results into product insights.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence a range of audiences.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Familiarity with modern developer platforms and ecosystems a plus.

Job Description

The Azure UX team is looking for a researcher to join us to lead research for the Commerce + Ecosystems group at Microsoft. You will be a meaningful part of a growing, multi-disciplinary team that values diversity of thought and recognizes everyone for their personal strengths and desire to learn and grow.

Our team is part of a larger design studio at Microsoft called the Cloud + AI Design Studio which is reshaping the digital experiences for modern cloud-based applications and services. Our team’s mission is to improve, iterate and innovate on Azure’s user experiences in order to further empower our developer and enterprise customers to achieve more.


Responsibilities

You’ll share the responsibility for ensuring a successful user experience for our customers and will be expected to:
  • Deeply collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers to define research strategy
  • Contribute your research perspectives throughout the entire product design cycle to build user empathy and guide product direction
  • Identify and prioritize research opportunities to influence product design
  • Design and execute studies using a wide range of qualitative and quantitative research methods (including interviewing, usability testing, conducting surveys, and more), and conduct thorough data analysis that provides actionable insights
  • Be comfortable communicating research insights and opportunities in clear, concise, and compelling ways (through reports, journey maps, and more) that resonate across all levels of the UX and product teams
Collaborate with other user researchers to leverage each other’s work across the studio


Qualifications

  • 3+ years of industry experience throughout all product stages from conception to release
  • A passion for translating data into insights and insights into actionable recommendations, and the ability to share research findings in clear and compelling ways
  • Thorough knowledge and experience across a range of UX research approaches and methodologies
  • Experience collaborating across disciplines (design, engineering) and across teams; ability to work independently as well as part of a cohesive team
  • Bonus: An advanced degree in Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction or a related field
