Janssen Biopharma Inc., a division of Johnson and Johnson is seeking a Director of Communications, Infectious Diseases located in South San Francisco, CA.

The Infectious Diseases and Vaccines Therapeutic Area focuses on the development of novel therapeutics and vaccines to treat, cure and prevent some of the most devastating infectious diseases. These range from respiratory infections like respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and COVID-19; to chronic infections such as hepatitis B (HBV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). We seek to make a positive impact on health for humanity. The Global Infectious Diseases Communications Leader is responsible for building and driving JnJ’s Infectious Diseases communications. Working as part of a team supporting the Infectious Disease & Vaccines Global Therapeutic Area Communications Leader, to provide world-class communications.

This role acts collaboratively and independently to drive the positioning of Janssen’s Infectious Diseases Therapeutic portfolio, counseling business leaders – having a key impact on Sector and Enterprise reputation and growth. This role also serves as the communications leader for Janssen’s South San Francisco Research and Development site leading site and employee communications.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Devise and execute external and internal communication strategies; lead on partner management and deal communication
  • Serves as a Company media contact
  • Key lead in managing safety, clinical trial and regulatory issues
  • Significant interaction, leadership and alignment to help drive Enterprise strategy and contribute to reputation impact
  • External partnership lead and networking with advocacy, NGOs and professional organizations
  • Lead on workforce activation to engage, inspire and increase the productivity of over 500 infectious disease employees plus additional on-site staff and over 750 partners globally.
  • Align with the regional and local businesses (commercial), supply chain, other Sectors and corporate functions
  • Model and lead with a one-team attitude

Experience and functional proficiencies:

  • 10+ years of experience managing communication in a company, NGO, government agency or public relations agency
  • Global attitude and successful record of working in a global function, with direct experience of leading on international projects, issues and teams
  • Demonstrated knowledge of R&D processes and the pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong eye for business with understanding of competitive and industry priorities that drive business and social value
  • Ability to lead, encourage and coach project teams and individuals
  • Ability to build relationships and influence partners
  • Strong experience in media relations, crisis and issues management
  • Demonstrated ability of managing priorities in a fast-paced, environment
  • Experience in managing budgets and prioritization across projects
  • Exercise excellent judgment at all times
