Responsibilities

The Market Development Advisor will lead and drive our Bold Goal efforts in the Louisville area. This individual will tailor the strategy and approach to the needs of the local community. Using influence & collaboration, the Market Development Advisor will build partnerships and implement population health initiatives aiming to increase Healthy Days, a CDC defined health-related quality of life measure, while driving positive business results. Through innovative population health strategies and tools that reach inside the clinical setting as well as into community organizations, this role seeks to enrich the experience for consumers and providers, improve health outcomes for members and their communities, and build impenetrable markets that foster growth and retention. Strong candidates will be curious self-starters who can work in a rapidly changing industry, tolerate ambiguity and demonstrate problem-solving skills and cross-functional leadership.

The Market Development Advisor will serve to activate its market’s population health strategy via key stakeholder groups: internal Board of Directors and external Health Advisory Board. This individual will develop & implement initiatives and programs in partnership with key internal and external stakeholders.


  • Develop & lead cross-functional leadership boards & align strategy with internal business objectives
    • Develop the Health Advisory Board, comprised of internal and external stakeholders; set agenda and facilitate scheduled Health Advisory Board meetings
    • Define the Louisville area population health strategy with the internal Board of Directors and members of the Office of Population Health core team, with input from the Health Advisory Board
    • Ensure integration of the population health strategy across Humana’s lines of business

  • Build relationships & assess community needs to tailor the strategy to area health challenges
    • Gather and understand multiple community views (departments of public health, providers, universities, social service organizations, large employers, etc.) focusing on a shared purpose, seeking to balance community priorities with business objectives
    • Leverage internal and publicly available data sources to analyze health needs & indicators

  • Design & implement population health pilots, programs & initiatives
    • Deploy Office of Population Health supported/funded pilots and programs that are aligned to the market’s priority conditions and health barriers including key social determinants of health
    • Leverage the Health Advisory Board relationships to design & launch pilots, programs, and initiatives in the market; define initiative scope and effectively project manage the initiatives to completion including funding, corporate review & approval, stakeholder responsibilities, timelines, deliverables, and the measurement of results
    • Track and report on progress, barriers & results to leadership, and offer suggestions for further program development

  • Report on progress & lead stakeholder communications approach
    • In partnership with Office of Population Health teammates, highlight population health tools (i.e., Community Health Dashboard, Market Health Scorecard, and other dashboards) to the Board of Directors to provide transparency into metrics
    • Engage local Humana Associates to build awareness, advocacy and activism to support and advance the local Bold Goal / Populations Health efforts including volunteerism
    • Humana Bold Goal / Population Health work at community events and publishing varied internal and external communications (newsletters, websites, emails, etc.); ensure internal and external collateral messaging is up-to-date, accurate and effective
    • Participate in market leadership team meetings; contribute to discussion and strategy planning, ensuring the Bold Goal focus areas are integrated into overall market strategy


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years managing large scale projects and cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication skills
  • Success in developing working relationships within a highly matrixed business environment and in the community at large
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed recommendations
  • Must be passionate about contribution to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in Wellness/Well-being/Pubic Health
  • Experience in community organizing / non-profit space
  • Experience in responding to state and/or federal government solicitations
  • Experience developing relationships with key stakeholders to understand and improve the market
  • 3+ years experience with Medicaid/Medicare
