What You Will Contribute:

Job Overview:

The position responsibilities will include:

  • support sustainability of Hedland product line
  • support requests for testing of any flow instrumentation product line
  • support improvement of the ER system process
  • support New Product Development Process
  • support continuous improvement initiatives

Major job duty/accountability

  • 40% Lead production release of Hedland 3” EZ View project
  • 30% Develop test procedures for testing activities in the Racine & Milwaukee facilities
  • 10% Support sustainability of Dynasonics product line
  • 15% Implement NPD process initiatives
  • 5% Additional projects, tasks, activities, assignments as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Actively enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or similarly related program from an accredited college/university. This position requires special access to support the program and requires the selected candidate to be a US Citizen.

An intern in this position will work closely with a team of engineers on a formal government contract or internal investment effort in one or more of the following areas: military missile launching systems, naval machinery control systems, missile airframes, advanced materials, naval ship design, or additive manufacturing.
Mechanical Engineering tasks include: plan, design, and develop mechanical products and systems such as mechanical structures, lifting mechanisms, heat transfer systems, exhaust control systems, airframes, HVAC, and piping. Tasks may also include thermal and fluid mechanics analysis.
Positions are available supporting the Advanced Materials Laboratory in our Baltimore, MD location. Candidates should have a working knowledge of upper level materials science and an interest in design and fabrication of advanced composite materials.
These positions are located in Baltimore, MD.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s level degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials engineering, materials science, industrial engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Candidates must have the ability to obtain a DoD security clearance to at least the Secret level.


Desired Skills:

  • Some entry level experience and passion in mechanical design, structural and thermal analysis, 3D CAD design (Solidworks, Creo, or similar) is desired.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing and engineering testing in a laboratory environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with advanced materials science is a benefit.
  • Domain experience in environmental testing, such as thermal, vibration, and shock, are all possible areas of focus at our location.

What are the details of this position:

The Mechanical Engineering Intern will be responsible for supporting both the Automotive and Production Team initiatives for Geotab. As part of the Production Team, you will assist the team that interacts with manufacturers, suppliers and internal stakeholders, specifically, as well as working on mechanical requirements such as tooling and harness specifications. In this role, you will be making sample harnesses and production jigs. You will work with internal stakeholders to ensure the designs are sound electrically and that all the product engineering requirements are met. This includes ensuring prototypes from suppliers are field acceptable. You will also be responsible for managing engineering documentation and mechanical drawings and ensuring updated revision control is maintained.

Duties and Tasks/Essential Functions:

  • Create and maintain harness/cable assembly and cable schematics and other mechanical drawings per engineering requirements and in coordination with QA using Solidworks
  • Work with Engineering to define objectives and correct electrical requirements
  • Ensure all testing and compliance criteria is specified on drawings
  • Assist with building engineering prototypes per the desired specifications
  • Maintain document control and revision history (internal and external)
  • Review suggested alternate connectors / parts and supplier drawings for compliance with requirements
  • Review First Article samples for compliance to approved specs
  • Perform Stack-up / tolerance analysis and review on various products and ensure accurate dimensional accuracy
  • Incorporate testing knowledge and best practices to new designs and maintain lessons learned
  • Assist production with Jig tooling and design
  • Assist production in various other tasks as required

Experience/Skills Required:

  • Completing a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience with SolidWorks is considered an asset
  • Experience in all areas of design, prototyping, testing and qualification is considered an asset
  • Hands on experience working with plastic injection mold tool design including insert molding and over-molding is considered an asset
  • Proven ability make independent judgments using sound engineering principles and techniques
  • Engineering document control experience in coursework and projects to ensure compliance and consistency of documentation throughout the process
