Northrop Grumman Enterprise Services is seeking a well-qualified Network Communications Engineer to join its dynamic team of technical professionals in the San Diego area.

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain smooth operation of LAN/WAN/VPNs.
  • Plan, design, configure, and install network hardware in support of customer requirements.
  • Maintain technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, switches, gateways, etc.
  • Propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings.
  • Create and ensure that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions.
  • Provide regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting analysis of network infrastructure and associated systems.
  • Install and configure Cisco routers, switches and firewalls.
  • Implement and troubleshoot LAN technologies such as VLANs, Trunking (port tagging), Spanning-Tree, and Port Security.
  • Provide third-level support and troubleshooting of network problems. Periodically provide after-hours and weekend support.
  • Implement and troubleshoot WAN technologies such as EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, and telco circuits (T1, T3, OC3)
  • Interface regularly with customers and manage customer installation timelines and deliverables to help facilitate successful deployments.
  • Design and implement an enterprise network. Recommends data, voice or video network investment decisions to management and customers based on results of independent assessment of current and future network performance, stability, and network management issues.
  • Lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Work after hours and weekends as needed.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience OR Master’s degree and 3 years of experience OR Associate’s degree and 7 years of experience; 9years of experience may be considered in lieu of completed degree.
  • Current Security+ certification.
  • Active Top Secret adjudicated within last 5 years.
  • Ability to be cleared to special access programs
  • Network/Help Desk Support experience to include knowledge of DISA STIG implementation and management
  • Experience designing and maintaining LAN & WAN based networks including, Telco circuits, through the use of Solarwinds and other types of applications
  • Experience with managing routing protocols on large LAN environments and supporting Cisco VoIP/Video issues
  • Experience managing networks for virtualized server networks
  • Experience with Cisco hardware including routers, switches, and firewalls
  • Microsoft Office, Visio, Project, PowerPoint and Excel experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of experience OR Master’s degree and 7 years of experience OR Associate’s degree and 11 years of experience; 13 years of experience may be considered in lieu of completed degree.
  • Current Security+ certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in IS related field
  • Cisco CCNA, CCNP, CCIE
  • Previous experience troubleshooting network procedures and best practices; experience with network challenges associated with systems integration, including COTS integration, capacity analysis and system architecture design
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills and has effectively managed small teams
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of network analysis tools (i.e. WireShark, Opnet, etc.)
