Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Advanced Automation Manufacturing Engineer to join our Advanced Automation group in Palmdale, CA. The Advanced Automation team is responsible for conception, development, implementation and transition of new technology solutions to the manufacturing floor to increase efficiency, reduce cost, and improve quality. Key skills for success within Advanced Automation are creativity, leadership, communication, critical thinking, and thoroughness.

In this role you will support the Advanced Automation team. The Advanced Automation team develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques. This team also provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques, and ensures production processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations. Your focus in this role will be upon automation projects such as those including drilling systems; fiber placement systems for composites; robotics; coatings applications; projection systems and related equipment.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) with 4 years of experience in production assembly/fabrication including composites, metallic, coatings application, and/or production manufacturing operations
  • This position requires a current active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 5 years
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
  • Experience providing innovative techniques focused on improving product designs and tooling assemblies or equipment
  • Experience in a fabrication and/or assembly manufacturing environment
  • Must have CAD experience and knowledge of composites fabrication and tooling concepts
  • Ability to work 1st shift “5am-3:30pm” or 2nd shift “4:12pm-2:42am” and any work schedule (times may vary)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • STEM Degree (Science, Technical, Engineering or Mathematical)
  • Experience with understanding of coordination of design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with customers, both internal and external
  • Experience working hands-on in a production assembly line environment
  • Experience providing innovative techniques focused on improving product designs and tooling assemblies or equipment
  • Experience with project management (cost, schedule and technical performance) and systems engineering, EVMS
  • Experience with advanced aerospace coatings applications, Low Observable technology. manufacturing production automation, robotics and advanced manufacturing technologies
