Job Description

We are looking for an experienced manager to work on a system that not only stores EiBs of data, it churns EiBs of data weekly.

We have a very large physical and virtual footprint, and strategic importance for the company. Most Microsoft products and services have a dependency on our platform for data mining.

We own a programming language, the compiler for it, type system, runtime APIs and libraries, as well as the distributed job coordinator.


Responsibilities

This position is to manage the runtime team, which impacts millions of jobs, any of which might require tens of thousands of servers.

Technical work includes work on security isolation, performance isolation, resiliency, distributed execution and all its problems. Strong software architecture skills is a must. If you want to get your hands into the code, you will have the opportunity to work on foundational algorithms like sorting and scheduling. You will also be able to work with code generation and compiler backends. Code is mostly C++ and C#, with significant amounts of Java and some Python.

Besides the technical expertise, candidates must care about the people, their careers, be invested on their success, and put in the work to be a great manager. You should care about customers, their well-being and success. The team has enough senior people to help you, and junior people to coach and help grow


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering or Mathematics or Physics or IT related technical discipline or 10+ years of industry software engineering experience
  • 10+ years of programming experience in C++ OR C# OR C OR GO OR Python OR any other object-oriented programming language
  • 5+ years of technical lead (TLM) OR people managment experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Compiler or big data experience
  • C++ or systems programming language
  • Strong distributed systems and software architecture skills
  • Willingness to learn new programming languages
  • Experience with one or more of the the following: Distributed Systems, Big Data, Hadoop, Map-Reduce, Compilers, Optimization, Algorithm Optimization

Job Description

The job of the Azure Security team is to ensure that Azure is the most secure and resilient cloud platform. We are looking for an experienced software engineering manager to lead a team of engineers developing security features and services for the Azure platform in the area of Confidential Computing. The candidate should be an independent self-driven and hands-on manager with a proven track record running high scale services with a Livesite-first mindset, experience leading successful teams with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across the company, a passion for driving strong engineering cultures, an excellent track record managing, growing/coaching strong engineers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to learn and grasp concepts quickly in a fast-paced environment is critical to success.

  • Strong design and development experience of a large complex system.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and debugging skills.
  • 8+ years of software development experience in a product group.

  • Strong design and development experience with distributed programming models.
  • Prior experience in building large scale distributed systems is a big plus.
