Job Description

Position Summary:

As part of the Platform Marketing Team, this role will be responsible for the marketing of RNA, single-cell, and spatial applications on Illumina NGS instruments. This individual will work cross-functionally to develop and execute on marketing plans with the end goal of driving systems utilization, new instrument placements, and new customer acquisition. By developing deep understanding of market needs, the successful candidate will be a key source of input into product development and will serve as a marketing lead for relevant external partnerships. This individual will work closely with Product, Segment, and Regional Marketing teams execute upon global, regional and segment strategies. Ideal candidates will have industry-specific product and customer experience, have led cross-functional matrixed teams successfully, and have a history of working constructively with a variety of different stakeholders throughout an organization. A good understanding of the NGS market, applications, and customer base is essential for the success of this individual.

Responsibilities:

  • Capture voice of customer, and understand customer behaviors when choosing NGS methods to use for RNA and extra-dimensional sequencing applications, including singe-cell and spatial genomics

  • Articulate product solutions (including library prep, automation, sequencing and informatics) for RNA and extra-dimensional sequencing applications (single-cell, spatial, etc.) in partnership with Product Marketing, Commercial, Business Development and other stakeholders

  • Collaborate with Business Development and external partners to realize articulated product solutions for RNA, single-cell, and spatial genomics applications. Example business needs include evaluating technologies, driving internal stakeholder alignment and providing recommendations.

  • Influence cross-functional effort to develop and execute marketing plans to drive increased adoption of key NGS methods

  • Partner with broader marketing team to provide guidance and input into Regional and Segment-specific marketing campaigns

  • Responsible for creating marketing collateral and sales tools, including, but not limited to application notes, technical notes, cost calculators, and data sheets, in collaboration with market segment leaders

  • Serve as an internal and external advocate for the adoption of new sequencing methods on Illumina sequencers, and share customer insights and market trends to internal stakeholders, including executive leadership

Preferred Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or PhD a plus.

  • At least 3+ years of industry experience in Product Marketing, Product Management, Field Applications, or Market Development

  • Significant customer-facing experience and technical expertise are highly valued

  • Demonstrated experience telling impactful stories to technical audiences is a plus

  • Technical knowledge of genomics, next-generation sequencing, molecular biology products, and industry trends is a plus

  • Analytical skills are highly valued – ability to learn and use analytical tools to ask and answer key strategic questions and make data-driven decisions is key to understanding the scale of Illumina’s business

  • Ability to influence people and diverse stakeholder groups within a global, matrixed organization

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are highly valued

  • Sound business judgment and discretion for managing projects; ability to develop and execute against dynamic timelines
