Job Summary

The Public Policy Intern will work with the public policy team to safeguard and strengthen federal appropriations for affordable housing and community development programs. The position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, interest in advancing affordable housing issues in a bipartisan manner, self-motivation, ability to work both independently and as a team player, and ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks. Reports directly to the Senior Director, Congressional Relations.

Term: September 2020 – {End Date} (dates flexible)

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Draft blog posts, articles, op-eds, and other external communications;
  • Draft advocacy materials, including fact sheets and issue briefs;
  • Coordinate and track advocacy efforts;
  • Prepare for congressional visits and coalition meetings;
  • Attend affordable housing events, coalition meetings, congressional hearings and markups, and provide detailed minutes;
  • Prepare advocacy materials and legislative information for Enterprise market offices;
  • Maintain database summarizing Enterprise’s investments in key legislative districts;
  • Track and monitor federal housing and community development legislation; and
  • General administrative duties as necessary.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must be a college graduate; graduate student strongly preferred.
  • Interest in affordable housing and community development, working with nonprofit organizations, and the legislative process, specifically as it relates to budget and appropriations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Good research skills and the ability to analyze and report/summarize policy issues.
  • Self-motivation; ability to work both independently and as a team player.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail, with strong organization skills.
  • Microsoft Word, PowerPoint & Excel skills and familiarity with cloud-based software are required.
