Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Product owner to align teams with the product vision, sprint goals, and other necessary information
  • Facilitate groups of 30 or more and coach multiple teams across the product
  • Create an environment of collaboration within the teams that allows for open dialogue and productive solutions for resolving conflicts
  • Champion continuous improvement activities to reduce waste and increase productivity; coach organization to conduct continuous improvement events
  • Communicate organizational impediments to leadership; clear impediments for the team
  • Embrace the concept of continuous learning in your own journey and instill the same in the team(s) you coach
  • Coach product owners in creation and maintenance of the product backlog, including empirical planning
  • Appreciate the depths of Lean and Agile practices and principles, help teams appreciate them
  • Teach systems thinking and servant leadership
  • Bring ideas from professional facilitation, coaching, conflict management, mediation and so on to help the team become a high-performance team

This role requires a wide variety of strengths and capabilities, including:

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience
  • Expertise with Agile and Scrum frameworks and their application in Product Development and delivery organization
  • Ability to coach and mentor
  • Ability to collaborate with and influence people at various levels
  • Sound understanding of Scaling framework such as LeSS and various other Agile frameworks such as Kanban, XP
  • Ability to leverage skills from coaching, facilitation, conflict resolution and more to serve the team(s)
  • Possess an executive presence and ability to coach multiple teams across the product
  • Knowledge of industry-wide technology strategies
  • Ability to leverage capabilities across the firm to solve local problems

Position Overview:

We are the Advanced R&D Mobile Center in San Diego for Insulet. When you’re part of the team at Insulet, you’ll do important work, like making the lives of people with diabetes easier. Your work will have real-world impact, and you’ll be supported in achieving your career goals.

It is a close-knit, collaborative, cross-functional setting where we believe none of us is as smart as all of us and we each have something valuable to contribute toward our goal. The software team is tasked with applying industry best practices to the design, development, and deployment world-class software products. We are looking to hire individuals with experience with software development and integration in mobile and cloud settings. People love working here! We have about 60 employees here in San Diego ,primarily consisting of Mobile Software Engineers for both Android and iOS. The FDA approved all our newest products across the board on June 1st of this past year, so we are staffing up!

You should be versed and comfortable spanning the full development lifecycle, from requirements identification and prototyping, through design and implementation, to customer acceptance and delivery. You are especially passionate about working with excellent software designs and driving Agile/SCRUM processes to meet and exceed customer expectations. You like the idea of partnering with scientists, and technology professionals to create outstanding patient solutions. You welcome the challenge of working in a fast-paced, discovery-oriented environment and will be genuinely excited about the prospect of creatively exercising your problem solving skills on a continuous basis with an eye to ultimately improving the human condition.

Responsibilities:

The role of the Scrum Master is to plan, execute, and finalize projects according to scope, schedule and budget. This includes coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. The scrum master is a very skilled project manager who leads several scrum teams focused on mobile/cloud management and implementation, software development in the medical device area and other high tech areas.

Strong understanding and applied experience with Agile development principles.

Ability to coach teams in the scrum master capacity.

Ability to work effectively in a dynamic development environment with matrix reporting structure.

Strong facilitation skills.

Ability to multi-task in a very fast-paced environment, between multiple projects and post-project support.

Strong time management skills, prioritization abilities and independently “take ownership”.

Responsible to ensure appropriate business processes, data quality, and systems delivery.

Ability to define business processes, data needs, and requirements, write use and business cases.

Able to work effectively with dispersed, remote and global teams when needed.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5+ years as project manager of all phases of technical projects.
  • 3+ years as a Scrum Master for software development teams.
  • Strong working experience on projects such as cloud implementation and management, software development, mobile development.
  • Strong understanding and applied experience with Scrum development principles.
  • Responsible to ensure appropriate business processes, data quality, and systems delivery
  • Ability to define business processes, data needs, and requirements.
  • Ability to work with others remotely to facilitate creation of roadmaps, product backlogs, prioritization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Work with the scrum team to remove impediments to deliver the product.
  • Able to work effectively with dispersed, remote and global teams when needed.
  • Expected to follow Company’s governance processes and methodologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is required.
  • Scrum Master certification is required.

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience with Medical Device industry is a plus.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services or other leading cloud deployment platforms and services.
  • Experience with mobile apps development.
  • Experience working in an FDA regulated environment.
  • Experience with SaaS products and scrum teams.
  • Experience and/or Certification in SAFe nice to have

A scrum master ensures a team practices agile values and principles. AGILE TEAM SKILLS

  • Helps teams self-organize and self-manage. Recommends improvements and assists in changes to best practice. Ensures development team is working efficiently towards Sprint goals. Demonstrates ability to work closely with delivery teams to establish expectations and ensure tasks remain on track. Ensures cross functional coordination (analysts, developers and testers) is occurring early and often.
  • Works collaboratively with Business and IT partner teams to support development and software delivery. Assists the Product Owner and Technical Product Manager in user story creation/prioritization and product Backlog grooming via emergent requirements.
  • Coaches the development team and stakeholders on how to use Agile/Scrum practices at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization. Ensures the development teams are practicing the core agile principles of collaboration, prioritization, team accountability, and visibility. Demonstrates awareness of Agile technology practices (e.g., Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration).

MANAGEMENT OF AGILE TEAM DELIVERABLES

  • Asks difficult questions, removes impediments, and makes issues and problems visible. Escalates as necessary. Identifies and manages issues and jeopardies with a clear grasp of the challenges/options until resolved.
  • Troubleshoots alongside team members to understand issues and help remove technical roadblocks as needed for team progression. Mitigates all risks and issues “real-time”, executing resolutions on demand. Demonstrates ability to analyze project issues and challenges and proactively define alternatives. Demonstrates technical knowledge aligned with the Development Teams that they support. Demonstrates understanding of the development process from concept to code delivery.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse teams with diverse personalities, during high pressure scenarios, within extremely tight deadlines. Demonstrates proficiency in Budget management.


Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in Agile development including coaching on agile methodologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, methodologies, architectures and technical
  • standards.
  • Ability to coach a team and stakeholders on Agile practices and ensure adherence to Agile methodology. Motivated and driven and can influence and drive teams to success using Agile/Scrum/Lean practices.
  • Technical knowledge aligned with the Development Teams that they support. Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional teamwork in and across teams and organizations.
  • Strong facilitation skills in leading planning meetings, reviews, and retrospectives. Exhibits negotiation skills.
  • Enjoys solving problems and able to resolve conflicts through strong mediation skills.
  • Communicates clearly and can deliver complex messages and teach new concepts. Fully committed to transparency in all situations.
  • Proven leadership experience in achieving successful project outcomes.
  • Scrum Master or SAFe Certification (Preferred).
