Beckman Coulter Life Sciences ( www.beckman.com ), an operating company of Danaher Corporation, is seeking a Senior Patents / Intellectual Property Paralegal for its Indianapolis, IN office. The Paralegal will be an integral part of the Company’s in-house IP legal team reporting directly to the Senior Counsel Intellectual Property. The Senior Patents / Intellectual Property Paralegal will:
Manage and support patent prosecution and management workflows, such as coordination of PCT Nationalization and timely submission of information disclosure statements.
Curate patent records in patent database for accurate management by IP legal team of IP portfolio and relationship to products.
Assist patent attorneys with generating various reports.
Manage docketing process for new Intellectual property matters.
Coordinate with remote docketing paralegals. Requires calls outside regular business hours due to global team footprint. Potential management responsibility of remote team dependent on qualifications.
Manage communication to Inventors, including support of filing formalities. Monitor patent docket activity by internal team and/or outside counsel. Track timely meeting of patent office deadlines, as well prompt invoicing by outside counsel.
Work within the guidelines and policies, as well as identify and recommend process improvements.
Support IP legal team tracking of performance indicators.
Assist with other Patent Paralegal duties and coordinate with general legal paralegals as needed.
Bachelor’s degree with 5 or more years of relevant experience
Experience with patent docketing software required, FoundationIP experience preferred.
Capability to work with team members and clients based at other company facilities.
Have practical knowledge of patent prosecution processes and support of patent attorney workflows.
Has demonstrated experience to identify and successfully solve problems using available facts and data, able to recommend and communicate solutions using prior experience and own judgment.
Demonstrated experience with identifying gaps in processes, developing and implementing process improvements, and creating standard work. Capable and willing to innovate or adapt as business and legal team needs change.
