Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Senior Principal Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL but will support other sites, including St. Augustine, FL and Palmdale, CA and will be responsible for Administrative NAS 410 Oversight and Qualification and Certification of NDI Personnel.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Working with vendors on new inspection methods/techniques
  • Working knowledge of multiple NDI methods
  • Probability of Detection Studies
  • Supports overall R&D efforts
  • Capable of understanding and interpreting specifications/documents/contracts
  • Hands on experience/knowledge in method certified
  • Provide insight on type of NDI methods to be used for inspection results
  • Ability to travel as needed to support programs & attend conferences
  • Provide training to NDI technicians as needed/required
  • Develop inspection techniques
  • Provide support to the NDI Technical Discipline when required
  • Evaluate, Qualify and implementation of new equipment
  • Provide input for new program NDT specifications
  • Participate on NDI Requirements Review Boards
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 9 years experience in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Techniques OR a Master’s Degree and 7 years experience
  • Must have Level 3 (III) certifications from the American Society of Non-Destructive Testing (ASNT) in all of the following Methods: Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiography Testing (RT), Penetrant Testing (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
  • Must have Level 3 (III) certification per NAS410 or ASNT (as applicable) in one or more of the following: Thermography Testing, Shearography Testing, Eddy Current Testing (ET), Visual Testing (VT)
  • Experience training lower level engineers & technicians
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance and special program access

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current and active DoD Secret security clearance
