About the team

Our Grid Delivery division is responsible for maintaining the performance and operation of our grid assets i.e. substations and transmission lines, and property management related to our assets. The division is accountable for the delivery of national transmission grid services to New Zealand, providing effective real-time operations management. Three regional teams plus a high voltage direct current team manage the maintenance contracts supported by a network of engineers, quality assurance and remote systems specialists.


About the role

The Service Delivery Manager is responsible for ensuring that Transpower consistently meets the service levels agreed with our customers. In this customer relationship and contract management role you’ll make sure that the right work gets done safely and in accordance to specified standards, at the right time, and within the annual work plan and budget so that customers receive the service levels they expect with minimal network interruption.


About the opportunity

As someone who moves effortlessly between fine detail and big picture, you have the knowledge and expertise to discuss technical issues with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Your deep understanding of transmission systems will see you make good decisions for customers and work closely with Service Providers to provide excellent customer service. You’ll build great working relationships with service providers, customers and other Transpower teams and look for opportunities to maintain these relationships proactively.

From delivering service and quality to customers, to working under pressure to resolve real time grid faults and repairs, to leading innovation and change initiatives – there is plenty to do in this role!


To be considered, your CV and covering letter will clearly demonstrate:

  • In-depth understanding of transmission assets and their significance for service delivery
  • Operational knowledge of maintenance and fault response including asset management systems (Maximo or similar software)
  • Subject matter expertise in an area of transmission systems (lines/assets/systems)
  • Good understanding of contract management as it applies to Service Provider arrangements
  • Successful track record of improving service delivery performance, including safety, quality, and commercial outcomes
  • Flexibility and experience working in an operational environment. Calm under pressure, you can re-prioritise and deal with disruption while continuing to deliver
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead and influence without authority

A relevant Engineering degree/tertiary qualification (e.g. New Zealand Certificate; Diploma in Engineering NZCE; NZDE equivalent) and/or industry tertiary qualification, i.e. Registered Line Mechanic, Electrical Technical Registration/Electrical Inspector – is advantageous, however equivalent experience in the industry or similar types of environments will also be considered.

This role has on-call responsibilities, however this shouldn’t unduly impact your personal life. You may travel to various service areas in the South Island from time to time.
