Job Description

Overview:
The Defense Futures Simulator intern will support the deployment and maintenance of a comprehensive defense-spending simulator and work on issues related to the defense budget. An intern in this role will be expected to support in depth data collection and analysis. Database management experience is a plus. A background in data science and visualization tools is preferred but not required. In addition to supporting data collection and management for the Defense Futures Simulator, this intern will support AEI Resident Fellow Elaine McCusker and Visiting Fellow Bill Greenwalt. These scholars specialize in defense management, budget, planning, and the Defense Industrial Base. As such, interns in this role will be asked to perform independent research, author briefings, and analyze data on matters related to the technical execution of the defense budget.


AEI’s spring 2021 internship program will be conducted fully remotely
. There will be two start dates for the spring program: January 19 and January 25. The program will run for a minimum of 10 weeks, although most interns’ end dates fall around mid-May.


Intern Scholarship Program
In the spring of 2021, AEI will offer up to six intern candidates a $1,000 monthly living stipend as part of a need-based scholarship program. Our hope is to allow students who would not be able to do so without financial assistance to reap the academic, professional, and personal benefits of interning at AEI.
