JOB SUMMARY
: Lead the technical activities of a design team on assigned projects/programs. Work closely with Engineering groups, Manufacturing Dept. and other departments as necessary to expedite project completion and facilitate the overall operation of project team.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:

  • Lead the technical activities of a design team on major projects/programs.
  • Work with Program Manager, Lead Engineers and other departments to assure adherence to cost, schedule and quality requirements on major programs.
  • Prepare and monitor engineering project team schedules, plans and budgets using computer aided network planning tools.
  • Lead technical activities in the pursuit of new business opportunities.
  • Lead the technical activities of a design team on major projects/programs.
  • Coordinate preparation of work breakdown structures, task descriptions, basis of estimates and other resources required to perform cost estimating.
  • Facilitate the overall operation and performance of a project team.
  • Provide technical leadership for in-house activities from project start to completion.
  • Provide technical leadership on issues related to subcontractors, suppliers and customers.
  • Ensure that all technical contractual obligations or project baseline requirements are fulfilled.
  • Ensure adherence to Quality Systems Manual and applicable Standard Work Instructions.
  • Provide timely status updates with milestones, issues with plan of resolution..
  • Limited use and/or application of technical principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Develops solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
  • Contributes to completion of routine technical tasks. Failure to achieve results can normally be overcome without serious effect on schedules and programs.
  • Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Works under general supervision. Follows established procedures. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy.
  • Contributes to completion of milestones associated with specific projects. Primarily internal company contacts. Infrequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts on routine matters.
  • Prepare and monitor engineering project team schedules, plans and budgets.
  • Support new business opportunities related to the product.
  • Work closely with Engineering groups, Manufacturing Dept. and other departments as necessary to expedite project completion.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to customers.
  • Conduct design reviews.
  • Capable of providing technical supervision and training/mentoring to lower level engineers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • 5-8 years of experience with Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 3-6 years of experience with a Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • 0-3 years of experience with PhD or JD in Engineering
  • With a minimum of 5 years Mulit-Disciplined Team Lead Experience
  • 5+ High Technical Industry or Defense Industry experience or military strongly preferred
  • Works in a typical office environment with exposure to light manufacturing environment
  • Light domestic and international travel environments – up to 10%
  • The use of safety equipment (PPE) is required in designated area.

Purpose

Responsible for leading and supporting project engineering activities within Pall Life Sciences. Manages capital and non-capital projects to meet general business objectives of product quality, manufactured cost reduction, product delivery, capacity growth, and productivity improvement. Generates, leads, and reports project financial justifications and project budgets.

Position Competencies

Knowledge of engineering fundamentals as typically acquired by completion of a Bachelor of Science/Arts (BS/BA) in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, engineering technology, or other engineering discipline or technically equivalent field and, additionally, eight or more years of demonstrated experience in project engineering, process engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and/or R&D.

Mechanical equipment design

Experience in specification, vendor selection, and management/coordination of building construction, process support equipment and/or process equipment fundamental design, specification, and fabrication and installation supervision, such as:

Piping systems, fluid pumping & transfer, fluid temperature control.

Boiler systems and boiler support auxiliaries as seen in systems typically < 300 bhp.

Airflow, blower application, temperature and humidity control, both in a general Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) context and a process air control context.

Other control or tempering processes.

Working knowledge of common industrial codes (most recent versions), including but not limited to: American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPV) & B31 series piping code, particularly ASME B31.3 Process Piping.

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70/National Electrical Code (NEC) particularly experience in installation of process/industrial equipment in classified hazardous locations.

NFPA 101 Life Safety Code.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration Codes (29 CFR 1910) applicable sections.

Proficiency in the use of the latest versions of the following software packages or equivalent:

Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint (required)

AutoCAD (any version), Quality Analyst / Minitab

Experience in application of the basic principles of Lean Manufacturing, Problem Solving Techniques and/or Six Sigma methods in product/process design, improvement, or similar endeavor, specifically in areas directly applicable to Pall Pensacola’s operations, including:

Executing/implementing Design of Experiments (DOE’s).

Use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) measurements and application of controls/control charts, including optimization.

Process mapping and Value Stream Mapping (VSM)

Experience in the drafting, execution, and/or evaluation of FDA (or similar) validation protocols, product validations, new product introduction, product commercialization, and/or similar endeavors highly encouraged.

Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively and efficiently communicate in oral and written forms at any level within the organization and interact effectively with customers and external business professionals.

Prioritizing activities and to remain flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
