Job Description

Johnson College is currently seeking a full-time instructor for our Veterinary Technician Program. The position of Instructor/Technician includes instructing students and performing clinical activities that are essential to classes that are taught in this position. Administrative duties can be completed as instructed by college and/or program chair. This position may include the position of IACUC chair.


· Animal Care Center:

  • Maintain current, confidential, patient electronic medical records
  • Coordinate with the Administrative Coordinator to ensure scheduling and planning of clientsare in accordance with student schedules
  • Provide high quality patient care in an educational setting
  • Keep current on industry standards to ensure that students and clients receive quality care
  • Ensure all protocols and policies of the Animal Care Center are followed
  • Supervise, work with and instruct students during clinical rotations within the Animal Care Center
  • Explain policies and procedures as directed by hospital policy
  • Assist in the development of protocols to be used in the clinic for students, CVTs, and/or doctors

· Program:

  • Attend staff meetings within the department
  • Establish a working relationship with the local veterinary medical community
  • Work with lab assistants and instruct/supervise accordingly
  • Coordinate all clinical activity needed for classes and labs
  • Inventory and budget items for class – responsible for ordering these items and reporting to Program Director.
  • Prepare assignments, grade tests, and etc
  • Lecture utilizing modern technology
  • Advise students and offer office hours weekly
  • Ensure all protocols are strictly enforced and accrediting standards are followed
  • Available to be the Vet Tech Club Advisor if needed

· College:

  • Strive to set an example that will cause an acceptable image, both on and off the campus
  • Serve on college committees when they accommodate semester schedules
  • Attend open houses and community events as instructed
  • Attend faculty, staff, and all college meetings as needed
  • Work with Program Director in planning and providing community programs


  • Demonstrate good communication skills
  • Assist students as needed in the wellness center
  • Possess planning, organizational, and managerial skills
  • Supervise technicians and teaching assistants
  • Demonstrate teamwork effective leadership
  • Be an advocate of veterinary technology
  • Be highly motivated, dedicated, self starter, compassionate, and responsible


  • AS or BS in Veterinary Technology
  • PA licensed CVT

EXPERIENCE: Lab animal experience preferred
